This unique chordal system traces its roots back to the legendary cello teacher Simeon Kosolupov. By introducing a few highly specific exercises to standard practice routines, he helped his students achieve extraordinary technical ease, impeccable intonation, and unmatched virtuosity. Among his most famous students was none other than the great Mstislav Rostropovich.
Kosolupov’s method was never published—it was passed down aurally to a select few fortunate enough to study under him. I was one of the lucky ones.
As a young cellist, I understood that if I wanted to master the great cello repertoire, my technique needed to be flawless. Determined, I searched tirelessly for a teacher who could help me achieve this goal. That search led me to Alexander Fedortchenko, a former student of Kosolupov and classmate of Rostropovich.
Fedortchenko shared with me this remarkable chordal method, based on arpeggios and seventh chords with extended inversions. In a short time, my shifting, intonation, and overall technique improved dramatically. Suddenly, even the most challenging repertoire became approachable with ease and precision
Years later, I began sharing this method with my advanced students. Initially, I scribbled pieces of it on scraps of paper. However, I realized that this invaluable knowledge should not remain a secret. It needs to be preserved and passed on to future generations of cellists.
For the first time, this complete chordal system is now available in the Cello Chordal Compass. The book includes fingered exercises, bowing instructions, and additional blank parts for you to create your own variations. This flexible approach allows you to adapt the system to your personal needs and performance level.
This method is designed for advanced cello students, teachers, and professional performers who are serious about taking their playing to the next level. While the material is comprehensive, it can be broken into manageable sections, making it an invaluable resource no matter where you are on your cello journey.
As a professional cellist, I rely on this method daily—not just for my students and teacher training but also to maintain my own performance standards. It has been a lifelong companion in my quest for excellence, and now it can be yours too.
To celebrate its launch, I’m offering The Cello Chordal Compass at a special introductory price of just €17, for a limited time only. This is your chance to invest in your musical future at an exceptional value.
